Mount Pleasant is a medium-sized suburban coastal town located in Charleston County, South Carolina. Motte was one of the area’s early residents and contributed to the development of the area. Mount Pleasant is separated from Charleston by the Cooper River and for much of its history Mount Pleasant was a seasonal home to many of Charleston’s wealthy residents. In 1928 the Grace Memorial Bridge opened, this bridge connected the community to the Charleston Peninsula. Later, in 1966, a second larger bridge was opened, the Silas N Perlman Bridge.

The town spans 52.6 square miles, 45.1 square miles of land area and 7.5 square miles of water. It is a wealthy community in comparison to state and national economic standards. It is decidedly white-collar and over 91% of the workforce holds/works white-collar positions and professions.
