Proposed changes on John's Island to ease congestion

Charleston County has proposed a comprehensive plan to ease traffic congestion on Johns Island's key routes, including Bohicket and Main roads. The plan involves:

  • Adding lanes to high-traffic areas.
  • Installing three roundabouts.
  • Constructing a 12-foot pedestrian and bike path along the river for about 9 miles.

However, this proposal has sparked controversy among residents living along Bohicket Road, who fear safety risks and property disruptions. Despite opposition from some, many residents at a recent community meeting expressed support for the plan, especially enhancements in the Brownswood to Plow Ground roads section.
